A superstar-in-the-making is born

Pudsey, a Chinese Crested/Border Collie/Bichon Friese cross, and 17 year old Ashleigh Butler made waves recently, winning Britain’s Got Talent last Saturday.

The duo, performing a dance act set to the ever-iconic Mission Impossible Theme, swayed fans and judges to their side, beating the singing performances of Charlotte and Jonathan.

Not only did the duo get to bag the ITV show’s £500,000 prize, but both also garnered the chance to take part in the Royal Variety Performance, with the Queen herself to be among the performance’s audiences.

"First of all I will get Pudsey a new lead because we actually lost his backstage," shares Butler, the Northampton-based teen. "I'll get him a bed too or whatever he wants."

The duo has steadily grown into a national sensation, a status which isn’t something you hear or see about everyday. Delighting audiences, the pair is well into becoming superstars-in-the-making, which, as with the ways and means in showbiz, calls for engaging acts and endearing performances.

Pet talent performances aren’t really anything new, with countless shows devoting air-time spots featuring pet/animal-oriented acts already happening in the past (David Letterman, anyone?).

What makes Pudsey and Butler’s act unique is its current timing, indicative of how adorable performances can match up against mainstay song-and-dance performances.

To an extent, Pudsey and Butler’s act says something about how fickle the entertainment/performance arenas can be, where formulated-for-success performances can be overshadowed but the underdog, whose acts, simple and elemental in their choreography, can win accolades and awards.

Think you and your pet has the chops to make it in showbiz?
